v0.4.51 - Camping, hunger and wounds.(feat. MG-08)

"Sargent Anon, We salute you for your loyal support!"

Every time it's not as close to the state I wanted it to be, but we're moving forward and I think that's very important.

There are countless improvements, new features and fixes here,

but here are some key points of v0.4.51 :

  • Hunger and Fatigue - You can't fight on an empty stomach nor with a sleepy head. Your party will gradually become hungry and tired, you have chance to get a good rest in towns/villages you visit(once you defeat enemies in the area). If not, you'll need to camp in order to cook & sleep in a tent. Be aware, though, enemy patrols might find your camp and raid your camp! Digging trenches takes time and makes you tired, but they'll come in handy during enemy raid.
  • Camping - Basic camping mechanic is first introduced in this updated. You can construct tents, campfires and trenches to rest & defend yourself against potential enemy raid during camps.
  • Wound & Healing - Most of the times, bullet wounds won't kill you immediately.  It might inflict bleeding wounds. You can right click the bleeding character to order them to bandage themselves immediately(otherwise they will prioritize fighting until their health reaches near critical). Characters can also go down and not die. You can order another alive character to treat fallen ally. They can only be revived once in a combat.
  • Static Machine Guns(MG08) - This is something very rushed, but I'm glad I'm able to show the taste of the mighty MGs in this update. Watch out enemy MG positions and try using them against your foes. Right click on an empty MG to man the gun.
  • UI improvements - one of the major feedback from previous demos is finally here. No more countless drag & drops to move items around. You can right click to quickly equip & move items around, dropping items on another item will swap items automatically. Added "Stack Ammo" button that automatically stack all ammo in characters' bag so you don't have to do it manually end of every battle.
  • Many many bug fixes - But I'm sure there are still more bugs to be found. Please tell us when you encounter them!

What's next ?

  • While gradually expanding the new features like camping and new weapon type(MG), We're planning to make demos more random in terms of each gameplay experience. Current story in the demo is something rushed and not meant to be in the final version. So while the main story is getting ready, demo will have more random events and freedom of player choices similar to Mount & Blade, for example. I believe this approach will also help in testing mechanics and quickly enjoying demos since you won't be going through the same story over and over again.
  • Training is a new(sorta) feature I'm currently brainstorming. It was briefly in one of the older demos(back when UW was fully 2D) but was put aside for other core mechanics transition into 3D from 2D. Training & Leveling up your solders is still planned to be an important mechanic and hopefully we'll be able to include basic training & leveling up in the next demo.
  • Brand new 2D art style is being worked in the background by a very talented artist, Rizu. You will be able to see his work soon!
  • We're planning to start a crowdfunding soon to fund our development. We believe we can make UW more fun with everyone's help. Please tune in to check out our rewards and goals and consider supporting us when it starts!
